In 2014, 126 Walsh Street saw Neometro™ introduce home sized apartments to the leafy streets of South Yarra. Fusing the brutalist leanings the developer has become synonymous with, and a sense of graceful poise that exemplifies quintessential inner-urban living in Melbourne’s south, the limited collection of four whole floor homes set a high-density precedent for the area.

Situated on one of South Yarra’s most coveted streets, 126 Walsh Street was a harmonious integration within the leafy streetscape of South Yarra almost a decade ago. In a locale that has long mediated between palatial single family homes and high-density cookie cutter style apartments, this development marked a renaissance for apartment living and shone a light on the benefits of downsizing without compromising on spatial luxury.

Designed in collaboration with MAArchitects and Carr Design, 126 Walsh Street fuses generous proportions and eminent craftsmanship. Each home has been meticulously planned to optimise the experience of living within it and demonstrate the propensity for apartment living within the embrace of the highly coveted Royal Botanic Gardens precinct.

Leveraging the natural beauty and abundant gardens on its doorstep, 126 Walsh Street intelligently maximises interior space which remains activated by verdant outlooks temper Neometro’s signature concrete ceilings and track lighting. Amidst a curation of elegant yet enduring finishes, each home articulates fluid spatial arrangement as its touchstone while ensuring smooth transitions between entertainment areas and the private quietude of the bedrooms.

Recognising a niche for those perhaps downsizing from homes within the area, or cosmopolitans unwilling to relinquish the connectivity and convenience of inner city living for a single family home further afield, 126 Walsh Street listened and responded to a pattern of living that Australia has been slow on the uptake of. Since its completion in 2014, the desirability of home sized apartments in tightly held inner-urban pockets has only grown, as has the understanding that quality, bespoke homes that wear in, not out, can often respond to the rituals of modern living in a way that houses can’t, offering respite without compromising on a tangible connection to community.
