Kanye against Kimmel, Fendi; is pro architect
Around the web - by Matthew
Is Kanye West is nuts? Narcissistic? Delusional? Or just telling it like it is…?
The true answer might just be all of the above. In an-hour long interview with Zane Rowe on BBC1 last week, Kanye delivered some truly inspired bursts that create one of music’s most entertaining interviews in recent memory. In the week following, publications from The Huffington Post to the Herald Sun to Dezeen have been analysing the interview and quoting its endless quotable quotes.
Parts one and two of the four part interview are below, but a some of the best lines include:
On himself
“I understand how to make perfect. Dark Fantasy could be considered to be perfect. I know how to make perfect.”
“I have reached the glass ceiling. As a creative person, as a celebrity. When I say that it means that I want to do product. I am a product person. Not just clothing, but water bottle design, architecture. Everything you can think about…”
“Rap the new rock and roll. We culture. Rap is the new rock and roll… We the rock stars, and I’m the biggest of all of them.”
“I eventually wanna be the anchor of the first trillion dollar company”.
On architecture
“I hang around architects mostly… People that wanna make things as dope as possible.”
“I’m learning what I want… I’m working with five architects at a time. The time spent in a bad apartment, I can’t get that back. But the education I can get from working on it is priceless.”
On fashion
“…me and Virgil [xxxxx] are in Rome giving designs to Fendi over and over and getting our designs knocked down. We brought the leather jogging pants six years ago to Fendi, and they said, ‘No.’ And now, how many motherfuckers you done seen with a jogging pant?!”
“We culture. Rap is the new rock ‘n roll. We the rockstars. It’s been like that for a minute, Hedi Slimaine!”
On fashion designers and musicians
“These artists, the clothing designers, they want to connect with people the same way that music gets to connect with people. But the cost of silk is too expensive. And they won’t lower their quality levels. So I can spend $2 million on a record and give it out in a democratic way. They could spend all their time making the greatest dress in the world, but it’s just impossible to hand-make that many.”
“Sometimes if you’re working on an album, once it gets down to the last moments, there’s two or three people in the studio. An engineer, a manager, the artist, a label guy saying ‘the masters are due tomorrow’… [At a fashion label] there are working 12 people, 15, 20 people, interns coming in working until 4am that night slaving to be able to put that thing on the runway. Pinning things right before they go out.. All 20 collections every day for fashion month. That is the level of dedication, heart, and soul that goes into that.”
“Look at (Lady) Gaga… She’s the creative director of Polaroid. I like some of the Gaga songs – but what the fuck does she know about cameras?!”
The next night, US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel had two child actors re-enact some of Kanye’s more memorable moments, while sipping milkshakes…
The rapper is currently going all-caps meltdown mode on Twitter, ripping Kimmel for the jab, saying things like,
“JIMMY KIMMEL PUT YOURSELF IN MY SHOES … OH NO THAT MEANS YOU WOULD HAVE GOTTEN TOO MUCH GOOD PUSSY IN YOUR LIFE…!
“JIMMY KIMMEL IS OUT OF LINE TO TRY AND SPOOF IN ANY WAY THE FIRST PIECE OF HONEST MEDIA IN YEARS,”
