Neometro was pleased to host Moreland City Council’s MoreArt Bloc Party on a clear November evening. The carpark at Jewell Station came alive as a pedestrian and cycle only zone for the evening with artist talks, sounds and video installations. Cuban themed food, music and dance filled the courtyard of our New Urban Village amongst the 3000acres garden.

MoreArt is the fabulous annual art-in-public-spaces event that continues to surprise and engage the Moreland community with a vibrant cluster of artworks and artists appearing in unexpected public sites along the Upfield and Sydney Road rail, road and bike precinct.

The Bloc Party was themed around RMIT’s ‘Conversation Between Two Trains’ project between the Hershey Train Line in Cuba and the Upfield Line running through Moreland. Via cross cultural exchange, a group of artists between Havana and Melbourne are exploring the idea of rail corridors as permanent arts spaces, looking at art and the urban environment, mobility and social participation, portable culture and life along the lines. Two artists from Cuba are currently in residence in Moreland during the MoreArt program with the final project set to be presented at the next Havana Biennale.

The Havana project is a perfect alignment with MoreArt in demonstrating the ability of artists to transform urban environments into vehicles for contemplation, celebration and imagination.
