Promoting his new film The Monuments Men, (almost) everyone’s favourite Hollywood actor Bill Murray sat down with Reddit to take part in the website’s famed Ask Me Anything sessions, where the general internet public get to indeed ask anything of guests that have included Barack Obama, Louis C.K. and Sir David Attenborough.
With wine in hand and looking delightfully dishevelled, the master of effortless deadpan was thoughtful, candid and detailed in answering questions about his life, times and just generally being Bill Murray..
> On his falling out with his deaf and mute personal assistant: “We were both optimistic, but it was harder than either of us expected to make it work…”.
> On his oddest experience in Japan; “Well, I was eating at a sushi bar… with a book I had called “Making out in Japanese… And I would say to the sushi chef “Do you have a curfew? Do your parents know about us? Can we get into the back seat?”.
> On taking the lead role in Jim Jarmusch’s “I really enjoyed that movie… He asked me if I could do a movie, and I said “I gotta stay home, but if you make a movie that i could shoot within one hour of my house, I’ll do it.” So he found those locations. And I did the movie…”.
> In response to “what’s it like being so awesome?”: “Well, nothing prepared me for being this awesome. It’s kind of a shock”.
In true Bill Murray style, the entire session makes thoughtful and strangely compelling reading, so do so here.
The week before, Sir David Attenborough also took part in an Ask Me Anything, read that here.
