The Curse of the Olympics

On dawn of the announcement that Tokyo will host the 2020 Olympic Games, The Daily Beast explores why hosting the olympics is a curse for host cities, not a cause for  celebration.

Along with echoing a common sentiment that the borrowing for the Athens 2004 Olympics was in part a catalyst for Greece’s debit crisis, Hines reports that Montreal didn’t pay off the debit from their mismanaged 1976 Olympic Games until 2006.

While the debit incurred to develop infrastructure for the Athens games is still thriving, the venues themselves, aren’t quite.
