DADo Film Sessions 2019

DADo (Design and Architecture Documentaries) is celebrating the centenary of Robin Boyd’s birthday in their 2019 season. 


DADo, the official film partner of the Robin Boyd Foundation, presents a rich program of shorts and feature length films that traverse the architectural landscape, from discussions on heritage and preservation, to modernism and the future of cities.

Held once a month from April to September, the Tuesday evening sessions are diverse in subject matter but simple in format. Held in the lounge room at Robin Boyd’s family home at 126 Walsh Street, South Yarra, the DADo Film Society provides the ideal setting for sharing design curiosity through discussion, film and wine.

The 2019 season launches on Tuesday 16 April featuring, the Australian premier of The Disappearance of Robin Hood (UK, 2018) and Off Season (Slovakia, 2018), which examine the destruction of architectural heritage of London’s brutalism, and Soviet Sanatorium typologies respectively.

On 14 May the program features the Australian premier of Chez Corbusier (France, 2018) and Flying Gardens (Italy, 2016) examining two different perspectives on vertical living.

On 18 June DADo present’s The Experimental City (United States, 2017) looking at the bold 1960s experiment with urban planning to overcome the problems of a growing population.

In July, to celebrate RBF100, DADo will proudly present a special screening of Your House and Mine (Australia, 1954) the film by Robin Boyd and Peter McIntyre that presented the agenda of Boyd’s seminal text, ‘The Great Australian Ugliness,’ six years prior to its publication in 1960.

The August session reflects the triumph of modernism with Eames: The Architect and Painter (United States, 2011).

The September ‘Local Legends’ session, and its associated guest speakers are soon to be announced.
