DENFAIR 2019: The lead-up​…

DENFAIR, Australia’s leading destination for contemporary design for designers, architects, interior stylists and design-lovers is only three weeks away with professional and public registration now open.

Now in its fifth year, DENFAIR is set to deliver a truly unique design experience and an opportunity to be immersed in three days of cutting-edge collaboration and the ultimate in inspiration.

The theme for this year’s DENFAIR is LIFE WORK, and the exhibition will shine a light on designs which support the rapid integration of our working and personal lives.

Bringing together the best of local Australian and international exhibitors, DENFAIR is renown as a platform for propelling works from both emerging and established designers into the collective awareness of the design industry. Here we take a look at some of this year’s furniture and lighting makers to watch…

1. Anaca Studio || Sedis Seating Range

The new Sedis Seating Range from Anaca Studio balances sculptural curves with strong, minimalist lines informed by Art Deco period architecture. Available in six size variations in five different finishes that reference the Australian landscape, Sedis has been designed by Anaca Studio’s Principal and Designer Anne-Claire Petre to subtly elevate any space. 

2. Didier || Fable Collection|| Sliver

The restless nature of Ross Didier’s design practice has produced collections more varied than any other Australian furniture designer. However, it is the consistent focus on ingenious and often ground breaking engineering that has assured his enduring appeal and commercial respect.

This year’s five new collection launches are no different with pared-back simplicity meeting Didier’s unique signature details which make each piece perfectly resolved.

3. Coco Flip || Honey

‘Honey’ is a new collection of lighting design by Coco Flip and handmade in Melbourne by local artisans. 

Coco Flips founding directors Kate Stokes and Haslett Grounds have drawn inspiration from their extensive travels to produce a beautiful collection that also takes its cues from the honey dipper’s soft curves. The steeped geometric silhouette is a nod to a stylised Art Deco sensibility forged from slip cast ceramic stoneware created in collaboration with Bendigo Pottery, Charles Sandford and glass artist Amanda Dziedzic. 

4. James Howe || Hubble Lamp

The Hubble Lamp by James Howe pairs solid rock maple with a handmade Limoges porcelain diffuser. The lamp builds on James Howe’s playful, minimalist aesthetic, and joins his range of commercial and residential furniture products.

5. Tom Fereday || Sia Chair || Presented in NAU by Cult Design

Sia Chair by Tom Fereday & Jolly Light by Kate Stokes.

Named after its unique adjustable backrest, SIA, meaning movement, is a lightweight timber chair that is slender in design yet uncompromising in comfort. Shaped from solid natural timber, the curved seat and articulated back is contrasted by a minimal steel frame that supports the sculptural timber elements and allows for a convenient stackable design. While originally conceived for the dining room, the SIA chair is perfect for both commercial and residential applications.

6. Adam Goodrum || Sofala || Presented in NAU by Cult Design

Sofala is a modular sofa system, characterised by its elegant curves and functional modules that allow for a range of comfortable configurations. With distinctive piping detail and a warm, inviting aesthetic, Sofala is suitable for both commercial and residential environments. Sofala will be on display at DENFAIR 2019 with a new 150-degree module

7. Adam Cornish || Strand Chair || Presented in NAU by Cult Design

The philosophy behind Strand is that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts; each component works with the other to create pieces that rely solely on their unison. Inspired by the vintage steel furniture from the 1950s, the collection is made from simple, tactile materials, chosen for their honesty and ability to age with dignity. Taking cues from braided steel cables, three aluminium ‘strands’ work in unison to create the outline of the design. Quaint, intricate and tactile, Strand is humble enough for homes and cafes, yet strong and ergonomically suited to commercial applications.
