Eat-Drink-Design Awards 2013

Architecture, Design - by Open Journal

The core elements of a successful hospitality business are undisputed – good food, good service and a good environment in which to enjoy them. Especially in saturated markets such as Melbourne and Sydney, two out of the three elements is not enough for a new venue to thrive, prosper and earn longevity.

Needless to say operators rely on chefs for the food and floor staff to provide service. Acknowledging the role that design and fit-out play as part of a new venue’s success, the annual Eat-Drink-Design Awards was established in 2012 to recognise the work of the architects, interior designers and graphic designers active across all facets of the hospitality sector.

From high-end restaurant design to temporary and pop-up design, food retail, identity and branding, the awards cover projects of all scales and types.  The only awards program in Australia dedicated to the space, Eat-Drink-Design is a forum for architects, designers, restaurateurs and bar operators to present and share their best new projects.

The short list for the 2013 awards has just been announced, with 81 projects shortlisted across six categories: Best Bar Design, Best Restaurant Design,  Best Cafe Design, Best Temporary Design, Best Retail Design and Best Visual Identity Design.

Check out a small selection of projects from around the country that caught our eye below, or check all out finalists at the Eat-Drink-Design Awards website.
