Eat, Drink, Design Awards 2018

Design - by Open Journal

There is a common thread to almost every recount of an unforgettable dining experience.  Like all stories, there is always a beginning, a middle and an end, but when it comes to revisiting the memory of a soul-warming dinner or a perfect cocktail evening, more often than not the beginning and end of the story are all about the venue itself. The dining experience can be an overwhelmingly sensorial one, or a beautifully humble one. The food and drink offerings are only one part of the all-encompassing “brand” that has been carefully curated to culminate in a collective experience and the interior, well that’s an entire element that can elevate an otherwise mediocre evening into the stratosphere of ultimate dining moments.

The design of a venue’s interior can evoke an emotional response long before the first morsel is on our palates. Outstanding restaurant design captivates our attention, brings us back to the establishment again and again, instills pride in employees and elevates the fundamental social experience – sharing food – to one we actively seek to repeat time and time again.

In Australia we are rather spoilt for choice when it comes to good food so conscious, considered and design-focused interiors are worth their weight in gold when it comes to marketing a restaurant. The hospitality design sector is therefore thriving and, last week, the Eat, Drink Design Awards 2018 Winners list is a veritable go-to for cutting through the noise to pinpoint where your hard earned smashed avocado dollars should be spent.
