Fender Katsalidis: Working Architecture, marks the first time the practice’s diverse body of work has been formally documented in one publication.

Published by Uro, the new book traces the rich history of the practice through 31 key projects selected from its portfolio of works. The book provides a rare glimpse into the creative and innovative energy that has come to define FK as a highly awarded, multi-disciplinary firm whose work now influences built environment thinking across the globe.

A series of key high-profile projects that are currently underway point to the journey that is to come as a practice that continues to shape Melbourne’s city and skyline, while expanding its influence abroad. Australia 108 is currently under construction, as well as two 80-storey residential buildings on Queen Street in Melbourne’s CBD (in collaboration with Cox Architecture). A landmark tower by FK in Kuala Lumpur is also set to become the world’s fifth tallest building, land-marking the city’s important Stadium Merdeka precinct, the location of the country’s Proclamation of Independence in 1957.

The work of FK has, over the years, made the typologies in which its works are situated highly desirable places to live, work and visit by contributing to their culture and commerce.

FK has shaped and enhanced the quality of Melbourne’s architecture through its many residential buildings from the early years of the practice through to the present day. These include FK’s early works such as the Melbourne Terrace Apartments and Republic Tower, and more recently Eureka Tower.

With a foreword by Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medalist, Peter Wilson, a written contribution from renowned Australian architect and Gold Medalist Graeme Gunn AM and a revealing narrative by the distinguished architectural author, critic and educationalist Leon van Schaik AO, Fender Katsalidis: Working Architecture provides a long overdue opportunity to consider this influential practice’s remarkable past, present and future.
