Remembering Honkytonks

Around the web - by Open Journal

Anyone 30 or older who grew up in Melbourne and wasn’t a hermit or a metalhead will have fond memories of Honkytonks.

Mixing the hedonism and savviness in equal measures, the enduring sentiment for Honkytonks is easy to understand. The club’s impact was so great that seven years on, the building’s new tenants – Tonka – have tried to honour and leverage its name, while actually being just in the same building, not the same space.

An article with commentary from its multiple owners and resident DJ’s, Red Bull Music Academy’s salute to Honkytonks is a read that will surely stir a few memories. (Or memories of not having memories).
