Slow down, World

Ideas - by Open Journal

This stunning picture book by Tai Snaith is a timely reminder for children and adults alike to slow down, stop and appreciate the world around us.

Sometimes life can seem so busy. We are always told: Quick! Hurry! Faster! With the world whizzing past, how often do we stop, look and appreciate the world around us?

From the fast-paced metropolis to the greener magical places of a young girl’s imagination, Slow down, World is a whimsical journey towards peace and mindfulness. Charmingly illustrated and written from the heart, Tai Snaith captures the beauty of slower things in life. Inspired by the work of Jeannie Baker (Tai’s favourite as a child), each illustration is intricately sculpted using paper, ceramics and watercolour, often all at once.

The book includes practical tips on how to slow down, this book is a beautiful reminder that there is no rush.

Tai Snaith is the author of The Family Hour in Australia and Sticks and Stones, Animal Homes. She is an artist, writer, curator and mother. She studied sculpture at the Victorian College of the Arts and has since received numerous awards and undertaken residencies both locally and overseas. Her work is held in both private and public collections including Artbank and the NGA.

Slow Down, World will be launched at 10:30 am on Saturday April 1 at Readings Kids store, 315 Lygon St, Carlton
