For Those Who Can Drink but Can't Draw…

Arts & Events, Ideas - by Open Journal

Drinking and drawing: it rolls so easily off the tongue you wonder why you haven’t sat down with a pinot and a pencil before.

The problem is, most of us can’t draw. But as anyone who can draw will tell you, anyone can drawthough a few basic pointers can assist in letting the pencil strokes flow.

If the words ‘drawing class’ sound like a pursuit of self-discovery to fanciful to pursue, enter Grey Eye Society – a ‘social drawing club’, where good wines and drawing are paired in way that will ensure you will open up your drawing ability and most importantly, and have a good time while doing so.

A five-week course aimed at people who want to learn to draw, or expand on, their current drawing skills, Grey Eye Society is the idea of Melbourne artist Andrezj Nowicki. Engaging fellow friend and purveyor of fine wine Peter Llyod, together they create a series of classes focused on a particular theme, style and technique, from both a drawing and wine appreciation perspective.

A different artist is explored each week, to which wines air paired according to that artist. This could be based on wine regions in the artist’s origin, or a more esoteric aspect of the artists work that may be picked up in your glass as you sip, stroke, scribble and surprise yourself. Yes, you drew that!

Held in the CBD studios of design practices Foolscap and Beyond the Pixel, the next course begins on August 28th.
